Loop Mobile, Loop Tele owe Rs 8.08 billion to the government: DoT

The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has directed Loop Mobile and Loop Telecom to pay the outstanding dues amounting to Rs 6.82 billion and Rs 1.26 billion respectively to the government, early August 2014.

Loop Mobile’s dues to the government include over Rs 756.7 million as spectrum usage charge (SUC) and one-time spectrum charge of Rs 6.06 billion. Loop Telecom’s dues to the government include over Rs 20.4 million as SUC and additional Rs 1.24 billon as reserve price to be paid under a Supreme Court direction.

Loop Telecom had shut operations in April, 2012 following the cancellation of its 2G licences by the Supreme Court in February 2012. Subseqeuently, Loop Telecom's investor Khaitan Holdings (Mauritius) Limited (KHML) filed an international arbitration against Indian government seeking damages of over $1 billion for investments the company had made for acquiring licence and operations.
